International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme to be implemented in Armenia

On 22 May, the Armenian minister of education and science, Arayik Harutyunyan, received senior representatives of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) to discuss the implementation of educational projects in the accredited schools of Armenia, reported tert.am.

The IBDP Development and Recognition manager, Vedrana Pavletić, and the IBDP’s head of Development and Recognition in Africa, Europe and Middle East, Jon Halligan, visited Yerevan to attend a workshop devoted to the IBDP's educational initiatives in the country. During the meeting the outcomes recorded in the accredited schools, as well as the recognition and compatibility of IBDP programs were discussed. The IBDP model has been introduced to three high schools in Armenia so far: Dilijan UWC, Quantum College and Shirakaktsi Lyceum. The workshop was organized by the joint efforts of the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Information Center for Academic Recognition and Mobility, the IB Office for Africa, Middle East and Europe and the three accredited schools.

The International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. The organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. The IB’s curriculums are present in almost 5,000 schools and in over 150 countries around the world. The Diploma Programme of the IB is open to any student aged 16 to 19 at schools that have been authorized to implement the programme. The curriculum of the Diploma Programme is made up of six subject groups, comprising theory of knowledge, creativity, activity, service and the extended essay. Through the Diploma Programme, students reflect on the nature of knowledge, complete independent research and undertake a project that often involves community service.
