Armenian soldier detained by Azerbaijani military along frontline

Armenian soldier Aro Kazaryan was detained on 12 August along the Fizuli direction of the frontline between Azerbaijani and Armenian troops, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry told Trend. This report was confirmed by the Armenian authorities

While the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry claims that Kazaryan deserted due to an arbitrary, unbearable and inhumane attitude towards the military personnel in the unit in which he served, the Armenian Defense Ministry still claims that the circumstances of the incident are unclear. “I confirm that there is currently an Armenian citizen in Azerbaijan, but the relevant authorities will report on the circumstances and the person’s identity and provide other details,” told the spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Artsrun Hovhannisyan.

An investigation of the incident is under way in Azerbaijan and Baku claims that the soldier currently receives medical treatment for the injuries he suffered due to the supposed mistreatment.
