Coronavirus casualty report for the North Caucasus

According to data from the headquarters of the regions of the North Caucasus, more than four thousand people died from coronavirus in 2021. This adds up to a death rate of 4.4 for every 10,000 inhabitants of the region. 

The overall mortality rate in the regions of the North Caucasus has also increased. In the Stavropol Territory in 2021, there were 5.6 deaths per 10,000, which is 17.9% more than in 2020. According to North Caucasus statistics, in the first half of 2021, 18,900 people died in the region, compared to 16,000 in the same period of 2020.

In total, 2,328 residents of the North Caucasus died from the coronavirus, of which 1,581 people died in 2021.

Kabardino-Balkaria had 5 deaths per 10,000 people due to the pandemic, which is 34.2% more than in 2020. According to Severo-Kavkazstat, in the period between January-March 2021, 2,569 people died in the region, which is 654 more than in the same period in 2020. In total, 707 people died from the coronavirus, of which 436 died in 2021.

North Ossetia recorded 4.3 COVID-deaths per 10,000 people, which is 13% more than in 2020. According to Severo-Kavkazstat, 4,269 people died in the region in the first half of 2021, and in 2020 this figure was 3,775 deaths. In total, 402 people died from the coronavirus, 301 of those died in 2021.

In Dagestan, the COVID-death rate is 3.5 deaths per 10,000 people, which is 7.2% more than in 2020. According to Dagstat, 8,800 people died in the republic in the first half of 2021. In the first half of 2020, the figure was 8,200. 968 people died from the coronavirus for the specified period of 2021. Taking into account the data of the headquarters for July and August, 1,099 people infected with COVID died in Dagestan in 2021.

In 2021, Chechnya recorded 2.6 deaths per 10,000 people, which is 3.3% more than in 2020. According to Chechenstat, 3,679 people died in the region in the first half of 2021. In the same period of 2020 3,560 deaths were recorded. From January to August 2021, there have been 382 deaths from the coronavirus in the republic.

In Ingushetia and Karachay-Cherkessia, there is no mortality data for 2021. According to the headquarters, in Ingushetia, a total of 278 people died from coronavirus, while 462 people died of COVID in Karachay-Cherkessia.
