Azerbaijani FM spoke with the US Assistant Secretary of State

Karen Donfried expressed concern over tensions on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and called on both sides to de-escalate and resolve differences peacefully.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov had a telephone conversation with US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried.

The statement came from the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

According to the report, Karen Donfried expressed concern over the tension on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border and called on both sides to de-escalate and resolve their differences peacefully.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said that during the telephone conversation, the sides also exchanged views on other regional security issues.

In recent days, there have been alarming reports of ceasefire violations on the Azerbaijani-Armenian border.

The Azerbaijani side stated that only on November 16, 7 servicemen were killed and 10 wounded. The Armenian side also said that 1 serviceman was killed, more than 10 were taken prisoner and more than 20 were unaccounted for.

The sides also blamed each other for violating the ceasefire.

According to the agreement of November 10 of the same year (between Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia), the fighting was stopped, and Russian peacekeepers were deployed in the Lachin corridor and on the line of contact.

Azerbaijan hands over bodies of 3 Armenian soldiers killed in recent border clash

In Shusha, Azerbaijan handed over the bodies of three Armenian servicemen killed in the November 16 border clashes.

The de-facto State Emergency Service (SES) in Nagorno-Karabakh reports that the transfer was mediated by Russian peacekeepers in Karabakh.

The SES says the bodies were recovered from the village of Ishkhanasar in Armenia’s Syunik Province.

The bodies have been taken to Yerevan.

Earlier, the Armenian Ministry of Defence reported that six Armenian servicemen were killed on November 16 during clashes along the eastern border with Azerbaijan.
