The controversy on social media over the borders of Ingushetia and Chechnya can develop into a serious conflict between the two peoples, the contradictions should be resolved at the negotiating table, said Speaker of the Ingush parliament, Magomet Tumgoev.

On November 11, Chechenavtodor carried out earthworks on the bank of the Fortanga River, along which the border with Ingushetia passes, causing indignation in Ingushetia - among residents and officials. Ramzan Kadyrov called the disaffected "a bunch of provocateurs who are trying to play the nationalist card." On November 21, the Chechen delegation went to the coast of Fortanga to resolve the issue of ownership of the borderlands in accordance with Sharia, but representatives of Ingushetia did not appear. Then on November 23, by order of Kadyrov, all Chechen power units moved forward for three days on the borders of the republic. In recent days, Kadyrov has twice warned the Ingush side that if the demonstrations of dissatisfaction with the current borders do not stop, they will be revised again, and again in favour of Chechnya. Kadyrov even specified that he would get the Kremlin's consent to sever eight villages from Ingushetia.

Residents of the eight villages Ramzan Kadyrov threatened to seize from Ingushetia are ethnic Ingush, the geographer Yakub Gogiev pointed out. Back in 2013, Chechnya formally included in its structure the settlements of the Sunzhensky district of Ingushetia, including the cities of Karabulak and Sunzha, noted human rights activist Timur Akiev.

Magomet Tumgoev, published an appeal "to all representatives of our region who have lived side by side for centuries," in which he called for an end to the confrontation on social networks over the issue of the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya.

Tumgoev called for resolving the aggravated conflict at the negotiating table. "The subject of the differences between the subjects is the territorial dispute over the administrative border. The issues of interethnic land surveying in the Caucasus have never been simple. The only argument in the claims of any person or a whole nation should be irrefutable arguments - at the negotiating table. No mutual reproaches, threats and the more so by demonstrations of power capabilities, the parties will not come to an understanding," the speaker emphasised in his address.
