“Despite the statements of the Azerbaijani authorities that after the 44-day war, [separatist] Nagorno-Karabakh as a subject no longer exists and that the conflict is over, the reality and the position of the international community suggest otherwise,” Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated in an interview with the Greek newspaper Katimerine. Mirzoyan stressed that the situation in the South Caucasus remains unstable.
“While Yerevan seeks to resume peace talks, Baku continues its policy of provocative actions and threats to use force,” he said. In this context, he noted the importance of an adequate reaction from the international community. According to him, it must take effective steps to prevent attempts to destabilize the situation in the South Caucasus.
“In general, we believe that, despite the shed blood, there is a real chance for peace in the South Caucasus. Armenia has repeatedly confirmed its readiness to establish long-term stability and open an era of peaceful development in the region,” Mirzoyan added. “At the same time, these efforts cannot be unilateral, and Armenia expects the same constructive approach from Azerbaijan,” the Armenian Foreign Minister concluded.
Earlier, the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, stated that there is no particular progress in the negotiations regarding the peace agreement with Armenia. "I would not say that there is any particular progress in the negotiations regarding the peace agreement with Armenia, but there are certain messages, discussions are going on," the minister told.
