About relations between Armenia-Russia
In relations between Armenia and Russia, there is a need to deploy new high-quality infrastructure. Armenian Economy Minister Vahan Kerobyan stated this in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
According to him, these infrastructures are essential for new companies. For this reason, it has been decided to start organizing several technoparks and industrial zones, the construction of one of which - the Shirak industrial zone - will begin next year. “We invite Russian companies that are interested in such infrastructure to Armenia,” Kerobyan said, adding that in addition to industrial cooperation, Russian companies will receive tax preferences and special logistics links that will help them quickly find new markets.
The Minister noted that Russian partners are considering various sectors for creating joint ventures, including chemical products, metallurgy, and high-tech production. Since the beginning of March, the Minister said, more than 1,200 companies with Russian capital have started their activities in Armenia.
About Lars checkpoint
The Ministry of Economy of Armenia, as an alternative to the Upper Lars checkpoint, is considering creating a port in Poti or Batumi. This was stated at a briefing after the government meeting, Vahan Kerobyan.
According to him, the Dutch company APM Terminals Poti, the operator of the port of Poti, has not yet given permission - it has joined the sanctions against Russia. As a result, the process of issuing a permit is delayed. "An alternative to this option is the port in Batumi, which a Philippine company operates. In any case, one of these two options will be chosen," Kerobyan said.
The head of the Ministry of Economy said that the Upper Lars checkpoint is open to all types of cars. However, the problem with the large queues formed in recent months will be resolved within one month.
