Dagestan Completes Mobilization

Dagestan Completes Mobilization

On October 17, Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, said the partial mobilization, announced on September 21, will be completed in Dagestan shortly.

"Last week, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Vladimir Putin stressed that he sees no need for additional mobilization measures and put an end to pseudo-specialist talk about a possible new wave of mobilization! In Dagestan, we are already preparing to summarize partial mobilization results. We will fully complete this work soon. We will wait for our guys to go home with Victory and take care of their families," Melikov said.

Earlier, on October 10, Caucasus Watch reported that Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, announced that the families of the mobilized Dagestanis would receive a lump sum of 100,000 rubles (EUR 1595) each.

On September 25, Caucasus Watch reported that police clashed with people opposed to the mobilization in the southern Russian region of Dagestan, underscoring the discontent with President Vladimir Putin's decision to send hundreds of thousands more men to fight in the Russian war in Ukraine. Numerous images shared on social media showed confrontations with police in Makhachkala, the provincial capital, while protestors chanted "No to War."
