Azerbaijan complained to French ambassador over meeting of Paris Mayor with separatist Nagorno-Karabakh leaders

On 28 May, French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zachary Gross was invited to the Foreign Ministry.

Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov complained to the French ambassador over the May 27th meeting of Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo with a so-called representative of separatist Nagorno-Karabakh. It was stressed that the illegal and irresponsible behaviour of the mayor of Paris is not in line with the measures to build post-war peace and confidence in the region.

On 27 May, during the tête-à-tête talk, the de-facto president of Nagorno-Karabakh Arayik Harutyunian expressed words of satisfaction to the Mayor of Paris for the initiative and courage, emphasising that the Nagorno-Karabakh authorities highly appreciate the regular contacts with the French political circles.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception, Anne Hidalgo noted that Paris is ready to exert the necessary efforts to support the people of Nagorno-Karabakh within the framework of humanitarian programs.

Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo arrived in Armenia on official visit on 27 May. According to the press service of the Yerevan Municipality, she was met at the Zvartnots airport by the First Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Levon Hovhannisyan. Anne Hidalgo, thanking him for the warm welcome, assured that the French capital is ready to assist Yerevan within its capabilities. It is noted that within the framework of the visit, Hidalgo is scheduled to meet with Yerevan Mayor Hrachya Sargsyan. During the talks, issues of further cooperation between the capitals of Armenia and France, as well as current programs will be discussed.
