"The activities of the commission for the delimitation and demarcation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border are in no way connected with the situation around the village in the Askeran region of Nagorno-Karabakh, which is in the zone of responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent," stated the spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova at a briefing on 15 June.
“At the same time, we expect that the launch and systematic work of the commission will help increase confidence between Baku and Yerevan and prevent incidents, both on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and in the zone of the Russian peacekeeping contingent,” Zakharova said.
Answering a question about the timing of the commission's second meeting on the delimitation of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the Russian diplomat noted that the parties agreed to hold a meeting in Moscow. "For our part, we are ready to organize a meeting very soon. We are waiting for proposals on dates from Azerbaijani and Armenian partners, respectively," Zakharova stressed.
On 9 June, the Russian Foreign Minister noted, “The situation in the Karabakh village of Parukh/Farrukh is in the center of close attention of Russian peacekeepers,” Sergey Lavrov assured. "As for the situation (in Parukh/Farrukh), it is a priority for the Russian military."
On the same day, Leyla Abdullayeva, the spokeswoman of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, responded to the media's request to comment on the opinion of the Russian Foreign Minister that the situation with the village of Farrukh [Parukh in Armenian] in Nagorno-Karabakh will be considered in the context of delimitation of the borders between Azerbaijan and Armenia. "We would like to note that the activities of the delimitation commissions established by Azerbaijan and Armenia aim to delimit the state border of the two countries, as previously planned. This process does not envisage consideration of any issue outside the Azerbaijani-Armenian border, including the territories of the Russian peacekeeping contingent of the Republic of Azerbaijan," she said.
