Jeyhun Bayramov meets with Iranian Foreign Minister in Tehran

On July 4, 2022, within the framework of his official visit to Iran, the Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Huseyn Amir-Abdollahian, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s Press Office reported.

At the meeting, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov expressed gratitude for the invitation and hospitality. Recalling the visit of the Iranian foreign minister to Azerbaijan in December 2021, the minister noted the contribution of mutual visits to the development of bilateral relations. 

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that the trade turnover between the two countries increased by 30% during the past year and by 18% in the first half of 2022. He added that there is more potential for development in this direction.

In this regard, the parties expressed the importance of the "Khudafarin" and "Giz Galasi" projects as part of the cooperation in the energy field. They also noted the importance of the "North-South" International Transport Corridor. The ministers admitted the importance of continuing the construction of the railway terminal in Astara and the bridge over Astarachay.

Bayramov spoke about the restoration and construction works carried out by Azerbaijan in the liberated territories in the post-conflict phase and noted with satisfaction the participation of Iranian companies in this process.

The minister informed his colleague about the steps taken by Azerbaijan in the direction of peace building in the region and said that Azerbaijan is ready for the normalization of relations based on the strict observance of the principles of international law.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Huseyn Amir-Abdollahian thanked Minister Jeyhun Bayramov for accepting the invitation and visiting Iran. He noted with satisfaction the achievements and documents signed at the meeting of the heads of state of the two countries. Stating that Azerbaijan occupies an important place in Iran's foreign policy, Abdollahian emphasized that cooperation between the two countries in various fields, including economy, trade, transport, and energy, has been successfully continuing.

Iranian Foreign Minister also stated that the Iranian side is determined to implement the "memorandum of understanding on establishing new communication links between the East Zangezur economic region of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan by passing through the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran."
