First tête-à-tête meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan

On July 16, a bilateral meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov and the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirozyan took place in Tbilisi, Press Offices of Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministries reported.

The two Ministers touched upon the wide range of issues pertinent to normalizing relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov highlighted that based on the post-conflict realities that emerged after the resolution of the armed conflict between the two states, all efforts need to be directed towards making progress in building good-neighborly inter-state relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. In this context, the necessity of full implementation of all provisions of the Trilateral Statement signed by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Russia, in particular the withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, was stressed. Touching upon the humanitarian issues, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the importance of bringing clarity to the fates of close to 4000 missing Azerbaijani persons. 

Minister Mirzoyan reiterated the position of the Armenian side that the political settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is essential in achieving sustainable and lasting peace in the region and stressed the importance of using the institution and experience of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship in accordance with its international mandate. The Foreign Minister of Armenia highlighted the importance of addressing humanitarian issues, including releasing and repatriating Armenian prisoners of war and clarifying the fate of missing persons.

Both ministers expressed gratitude to the Georgian side for hosting their meeting in Georgia.
