Harsh statements exchange between Israeli and Iranian Ambassadors in Azerbaijan after Khamenei's remarks

On July 19, Ali Khamenei, Iran's religious leader, expressed his concern about the possibility of closing the Armenian-Iranian border on his Twitter page.

"We are happy that Karabakh returned to Azerbaijan. However, if there is a policy of closing the Iranian-Armenian border, Iran will oppose it. This is because this border has been a communication route for thousands of years," stated Khamenei.

On the same day, Iran's religious leader wrote in a threatening tone on his Twitter account, referring to the opening of the "Zangazur corridor": "The Islamic Republic will not tolerate policies or plans that will lead to the closure of the Iran-Armenia border."

After Khamenei’s remarks, George Dick, Israeli Ambassador in Azerbaijan, shared about the book "Magical Tales of Tabriz," which tells about the history and art of Tabriz, the historical city of Azerbaijan.

An Israeli diplomat wrote on Twitter: "I am learning a lot about the history and culture of Azerbaijan in Tabriz in this great book that was given to me recently. What are you reading these days?"

Iran's ambassador to Azerbaijan, Abbas Mousavi, responded to the Israeli ambassador to Baku's book about Tabriz on his Twitter account: "For the attention of this boy who is looking for adventure: Our dear Tabriz is known as the land of firsts in the proud history of Iran. It seems that the zealous population of Tabriz will bury the first evil Zionist. Never cross our red line, never!"

It should be noted that "Magic Tales of Tabriz" talks about Azerbaijani miniature art, which occupies a special place in the history of world art and is an exciting and rich part of the art of the peoples of the Middle East.

Earlier, Caucasus Watch reported that Iran's religious leader Ali Khamenei's senior adviser on international affairs, Ali Akbar Velayati, criticized Azerbaijan-Israel relations. "The reason for our parting ways with them is Azerbaijan's relations with Israel," Velayati claimed. Although the province claims that they want to have good-will relations with Azerbaijan, it has set a condition for this. "We cannot accept Muslim countries establishing relations with Israel. A country in contact with Israel is considered alien to us," Khamenei's advisor said.
