Azerbaijan, Turkey, "Northern Cyprus," Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan Hold Joint Military Training

Joint military training of military personnel of the armies of Azerbaijan, Turkey, the Turkish Republic of [the unrecognized] Northern Cyprus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan is taking place in Isparta, Turkey.

The training is held within the "21st Operation Course on Combating Terrorists in Populated Areas" framework.

In recent years, numerous joint military exercises of the military of the countries of the region have been held with the participation of the military of Azerbaijan and Turkey. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, in October of this year, in Marmaris, Turkey, a joint exercise was held between the underwater attack and underwater defense units of the special naval battalions of the Azerbaijani Navy and the special purpose units of the Turkish Navy. In the exercise held at the Aksaz naval base, the military personnel of both countries performed the tasks of developing land and sea tactics and searching for and destroying unexploded ammunition and sea mines. For the last time, at the beginning of November of this year, a command headquarters training on the security of strategic pipelines was held with the participation of the military of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Georgia. According to the information of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan, the scenario of the exercise is based on the implementation of a peacekeeping operation, which involves organizing the protection of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline in a crisis.
