On November 22, Dauren Karabayev, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of KazMunayGas for Economics and Finance, stated that Kazakhstan is working to identify a company that will transport its oil through Azerbaijan starting in 2023.
According to him, the negotiations are currently proceeding successfully. At the same time, KazMunayGas and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) signed an agreement for five years to transport 1.5 million tons of oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline.
"We expect that the volumes will increase in the future since not only we but also Azerbaijan are interested in this," Karabayev stressed.
"A special roadmap has been developed to diversify oil exports. We are talking about the direction through the Aktau seaport to the port of Baku and from there via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. Also, Baku-Supsa and Baku-Batumi, where our terminal is located in the port. Plus, there is a direction by rail from Atyrau towards Batumi and Uzbekistan. In addition, there is a direction toward China. For all of them, work is now underway to expand and increase the potential for oil exports. We now have an agreement to ship 1.5 million tons of oil through Baku, Tbilisi, and Ceyhan starting January 1, 2023. Its further increase to 6-6.5 million tons is being worked out," he said.
