CSTO Secretary General:

CSTO Secretary General: "Draft Decision on Assistance to Armenia Is Being Finalized"

At a meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Parliamentary Assembly in Moscow on December 5, Stanislav Zas, the Secretary General of the CSTO, stated that it is necessary to sign a draft decision of the Collective Security Council (CSC) of the CSTO on measures to assist Armenia.

Stanislav Zas recalled that on behalf of the CSTO heads of state, in September this year, after a large-scale escalation on the border with Azerbaijan, a monitoring mission was conducted in Armenia, led by the Secretary-General and Chief of the CSTO Joint Staff. As a result of this work, a draft decision of the Collective Security Council (CSC) of the CSTO on joint measures to assist Armenia was prepared, which was considered at the session of the council on November 23 in Yerevan.

"Due to the different positions of the CSTO states, it was impossible to adopt this project. I hope that after a certain revision, we will come to the signing of the draft decision and adopt appropriate measures. I am sure this is necessary, including for Armenia," Zas added.

As previously reported by Caucasus Watch, at a meeting of the CSC of the CSTO in a narrow format in Yerevan, Nikol Pashinyan said that he is not ready to put his signature on documents related to the organization's assistance to Armenia.
