Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said that Moscow has agreed with Baku to increase gas supplies for domestic consumption in Azerbaijan. "There is an agreement with Azerbaijan to increase our supplies," Novak informed.

According to the Deputy Head of the Russian government, when Azerbaijan increases gas production, the countries will be able to discuss swaps in the future.

Notably, the exchange (swap) of gas supplies between Russia and Azerbaijan will amount to 0.5 million cubic meters per day. On November 15, Gazprom began supplying gas to Azerbaijan under a new agreement, which provides for the transportation of up to 1 billion cubic meters of gas to this country. m of gas until March 2023. In 2021, Azerbaijan and Russia agreed on cooperation in the field of seasonal exchange of natural gas: the contract, valid until 2023, provides for the supply of gas from Azerbaijan to Russia in the summer season, as well as similar volumes of gas in the winter season from Russia to Azerbaijan.

Importantly, Gazprom supplied gas to Azerbaijan from 2000 to 2006. Then the deliveries were stopped due to the launch of the Shah Deniz field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea. In 2015, there were attempts to arrange Russian gas supplies for the Azerbaijani methanol plant (AzMeCo).
