Saakashvili makes statements regarding the upcoming Georgian elections

On 4 August, Georgia’s former President and current chair of Ukraine’s National Reform Council Mikheil Saakashvili stated that he is convinced that his persona will not disappear from European radars, but Georgia is in great danger from this point of view.

“I can become a candidate for the post of prime minister in the largest country in Europe. You can read the Ukrainian press and be convinced of this. I have a very important role in Ukraine. Therefore, it is funny and strange to talk about imposing my candidacy on someone. We should not talk about this, but about the fact that Georgia will disappear as a country. [The Chairman of the ruling Georgian Dream party Bidzina] Ivanishvili wanted me to disappear from the world's radars. I am very clearly represented on all world radars, and Georgia is no longer there. Unlike a provincial politician, my country stands above my modest person,” he said in an interview with the Georgian TV Pirveli. In addition, he once again stressed that it is necessary to mobilize and act quickly in order to "end" Ivanishvili in the upcoming elections.

A few days earlier, speaking to the Georgian opposition-minded TV channel Mtavari Arkhi, Saakashvili said that only the United National Movement and no other opposition party in Georgia is capable of winning the upcoming parliamentary elections in October and that the UNM would definitely win. He also said that he is  actively involved in negotiations for the selection of majoritarian candidates in the regions in Georgia and that it was his idea to nominate the joint majoritarian candidates in six of the eight constituencies in the capital of Tbilisi.

The Georgian government stated that Saakashvili, who is wanted for several charges in Georgia, continues to interfere in Georgian political and election issues.
