Georgian FM visited Armenia

As a newly appointed foreign minister of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili began a series of visits and initiated several phone calls with the country’s strategic partners and neighbours. Within the framework of his official visit to Armenia on April 29-30, the FM met with the President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturian. Darchiashvili thanked Khachaturian for the high interest and actions expressed in the issue of further deepening of relations between the two countries.

The two sides praised the close friendly relations between Georgia and Armenia and reviewed the positive dynamics in all areas of bilateral cooperation. The Georgian FM also thanked the Armenian leadership for the unwavering support of Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity and stressed the importance of peace and stability for the sustainable development of the region.

Darchiashvili met with President of the National Assembly of Armenia Alen Simonyan and discussed the centuries-old friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. Darchiashvili met with his counterpart Ararat Mirzoyan where both praised the importance of their friendly ties.

The Georgian FM also met with Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan. At the meeting, the sides highlighted the historically friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries. The parties welcomed the high-level political dialogue between the countries and the friendly relations between the Heads of Government, which will contribute to the further development of cooperation between the countries.

Both sides also discussed current issues between Georgia and Armenia such as the prospects of strengthening trade-economic and inter-people ties in various fields and the actions to be taken to this end.

The visit to Armenia followed the Georgian FM’s similar visit to Azerbaijan where he held a series of high profile meetings with the Azerbaijani leadership highlighting the importance of 30th anniversary of lateral relations and the nature of strategic partnership in many areas.
