Georgian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Levan Davitashvili was on a working visit to the United States, where he is holding "important high-level meetings" to expand economic cooperation between Georgia and the United States, Georgian Ambassador to the United States David Zalkaliani said in a statement.

“The meeting between the Vice Prime Minister and US Trade Representative (USTR) Katherine Tice is noteworthy. This positive high-level meeting, which we have been working towards for many years, highlights the importance of economic cooperation between Georgia and the US and the need to improve the bilateral trade regime. A free trade agreement between Georgia and the United States will represent a combination of political and economic interests and a clear signal of growing U.S. economic interests that will further Georgia's aspirations for Euro-Atlantic integration and economic development, including the need for trade diversification,” he said.

“At the meeting, it was noted that the US International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) will continue to support such sectors in Georgia as the financial sector, tourism, healthcare, manufacturing, development of renewable energy sources and much more. Currently, the organisation is implementing 12 active projects in Georgia, the total cost of which is $188 million. In total, the agency has invested more than $750 million in Georgia. DFC plays an extremely important role in the economic development of Georgia. In this context, the opening of the DFC regional office in our capital will be a clear signal of the growing economic interests of the United States in our country and region,” the information says.
