Charles Michel, the President of the European Council, underlined that the European Union's leaders consider Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova from a European viewpoint, among other significant geopolitical choices. "Together with the 27 leaders of the European Union, we made significant geopolitical decisions. First, we chose to accept Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia's European perspective. These nations and their peoples have a future within the European Union," Charles Michel stated in the European Parliament's plenary session. 

According to the European leader, the second significant choice made by the European Union was to grant Ukraine and Moldova candidate status. "We have also decided to offer Ukraine and Moldova candidate status. This sends a powerful message to their citizens and to EU citizens. We are also ready to grant Georgia candidate status as soon as the priorities presented in the Commission's report are resolved," added Michel.

Caucasus Watch previously reported that during the discussion with Charles Michel, Prime Minister Garibashvili underlined his government's commitment to work tirelessly to achieve all of the targets outlined by the European Commission in order for Georgia to gain EU candidate status. Following the meeting, Michel tweeted, "We promise continued assistance to Georgia to accelerate the process of pursuing much-needed reforms."
