Zourabichvili Criticizes the Government for Anti-Western Rhetoric

Salome Zourabichvili, the president of Georgia, chastised the Georgian Dream (GD) party for its anti-Western rhetoric and its unimaginable, continuous assaults on MEPs at a time when the nation ought to be trying to implement the 12 recommendations of the European Commission for EU candidate status. The President emphasised, "At this time, an unimaginable thing happens; press speakers from Brussels and Washington tell us that we need to learn how to behave," in an interview with the Georgian Public Broadcaster on July 21.

When asked about the justification for the governing party's allegations that the West is attempting to build a second front and entangle Georgia in a conflict, the President emphasised, "If anybody travelled and met with Europeans at a high level, it was me. I was the only one who went to the U.S. for high-level discussions, and I never overheard any call for us to join the war. The coincidence with Russian rhetoric is noteworthy, but this is absolutely false."

Additionally, the President stated that the only member of the ruling party that speaks to her is the minister of foreign affairs, Ilia Darchiashvili. She asserted, "They won't ever talk to me again if they stop talking to me because I chastised them." President Zourabichvili also discussed depolarization and said she would not release Mtavari Arkhi TV executive Nika Gvaramia from prison for this reason. "When I pardoned 3 individuals, I already took my portion of the duty to depolarize, and that's all," she concluded.

The president also raised concern over occupied Abkhazia's long-term plans to transfer the resort town of Bichvinta to Russia.
