The de facto Russian Ambassador to separatist Abkhazia, Mikhail Shurgalin, did not see any anti-Russian narrative in Abkhazia. In response to a question about discrimination against the Russian-speaking population in Georgia's breakaway region, the ambassador stated, "There is no need to discuss discrimination against the Russian-speaking population, given that nearly all residents of the republic speak Russian fluently and the majority have Russian passports."

Shurgalin noted that individual incidents can occur at the everyday level, but, of course, it is not necessary to compare them with the conscious anti-Russian policy, for example, of the Kyiv authorities. Shurgalin stated, "Believe me that the level of Russophobia and ordinary ethnic intolerance in the supposedly democratic United States and countries of Western and Eastern Europe is many times higher."

"Obviously, crimes of various types, ranging from violations to criminality, occur in practically every country on the globe. The employees of the Russian Embassy and the Abkhaz law enforcement authorities are taking appropriate measures to defend the rights of the victims, including aiding with the consideration of cases in various courts," the Ambassador remarked.
