Georgian FM Receives Credentials From New EU Ambassador
On September 2, Pawel Herczynski, the newly appointed Head of the EU Delegation in Georgia, handed Ilia Darchiashvili his credentials. Following the ceremony, the diplomats talked about how Georgia and the EU can work together and the subject of Georgia receiving a European perspective in June. Darchiashvili and Ambassador Herczynski talked about the 12 goals of the European Commission (EC) and the agenda for the Georgia-EU Association Council.
During the discussion of the present situation in the occupied territories (Abkhazia and Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia) and the EU's role in preserving regional stability, the Ambassador emphasised once more the unshakable support of the European Union for Georgia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Mayor of Tbilisi, Georgian Government Never Deviated From Its Pro-Western Course
Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi, affirms that the Georgian administration has never veered off the route leading to EU membership.
"Our administration is prepared for friendship and the development of closer ties with a strategic partner, but all of this must be reciprocal," he continued. "We are reliable. We adhere to all changes and actions required for this important and difficult route. However, we will always reply when incorrect remarks are made or offensive resolutions are passed," the Mayor of Tbilisi added.
Chair of Foreign Relations Committee Meets With Ukrainian Counterpart
On August 31, Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, met Oleksandr Merezhko, his counterpart from Ukraine, in Prague. The parties talked about how to strengthen Georgia's and Ukraine's strategic alliance.
"It was a pleasure to meet my Ukrainian colleague at Forum 2000 in Prague. We spoke about how to strengthen Georgia's and Ukraine's strategic alliance in order to accomplish our shared objectives and counter mutual dangers. Awaiting his visit to Tbilisi," Samkharadze stated on Twitter.
