On October 6, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili met with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in connection with the inaugural summit of the European Political Community (EPC), which took place in Prague, Czech Republic, from October 6-7, the Press Office of the Georgian government reported. 

The Prime Minister discussed the historic decision to grant Georgia a European perspective during a meeting with President von der Leyen, adding that the country is doing everything to take the next step toward EU membership and receive EU candidate status. In that regard, Prime Minister Garibashvili drew attention to the twelve recommendations made by the European Commission for consideration as an EU candidate and emphasized that this inclusive process enables every branch of government, alongside the opposition parties and civil society, to become fully engaged in the implementation of the priorities. 

The politicians discussed the Russian war in Ukraine and its effects on Georgia, the surrounding area, and the world. In the digital, transport, and energy sectors, Georgia's future alignment and infrastructure contact with the EU were also considered. 

President von der Leyen tweeted: "The EU is committed to Georgia's security and territorial integrity. We also want Georgia to progress and be successful on its journey to the EU." She emphasized that reform initiatives must be maintained and that the European Commission is prepared to help in this process.
