On October 17, as part of her trip to Georgia to formally inaugurate the Norwegian Embassy in Tbilisi, Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Anniken Huitfeldt met with Georgian High-level Officials.

Meeting with Prime Minister

According to the Georgian Government's Press Office, Prime Minister Garibashvili and Minister Huitfeldt spoke about the expanding dynamics of their current bilateral ties and the potential for advancing their collaboration.

The topic of Norway's importance as a foreign donor to Georgia and its involvement in the country's democratic changes and socioeconomic growth was discussed. The two parties also highlighted the strategic importance of Georgia to the European Union's energy security. The PM reiterated Georgia's status as a trusted partner and ally of Europe in the region.

Meeting with Parliament Speaker

On the same day, Shalva Papuashvili, the Speaker of the Parliament, met with FM Huitfeldt and stressed the fruitful collaboration in the sphere of development, which helped the democratic growth of Georgia.

Speaker Papuashvili spoke on Georgia's efforts to join the EU and NATO, stating that given the conflict in Ukraine, Georgia and Ukraine's membership in the Alliance is particularly necessary and relevant for maintaining long-term security and peace.

Minister Huitfeldt emphasized Georgia's contribution to the NATO operation in Afghanistan and to the evacuation efforts after the United States chose to withdraw its soldiers from the country.

Meeting with Foreign Minister

On October 17, the opening of the Norwegian Embassy in Tbilisi involved a meeting between FM Huitfeldt and FM Darchiashvili. The opening takes place on the 30th anniversary of the two countries' restoration of diplomatic relations.

According to FM Darchiashvili, the inauguration of the new Embassy is a concrete confirmation of the close and cordial ties and successful collaboration over the previous three decades, which delivered significant results and advantages to both nations.
